Topic: Pre-Design Notice: Detailed Design Notice for Pedestrian Crossovers and Traffic Signal Program
Schedule: Pre-Design process begins March 2026
What is happening?
The City of Markham has retained Arcadis Professional Services (Canada) Inc. (Arcadis) to complete the pre-design and detailed design for traffic signals in your neighbourhood. This is part of a City-wide initiative that may include restoration of curbs, sidewalks, and pavement markings. This undertaking is designed to enhance safety for pedestrians and vehicular traffic at several locations throughout the City.
Within your community, the City has identified the need for improvements to the existing traffic signals at the below intersections:
• John Street and Aileen Road
• John Street and Bayview Fairways Drive
• John Street and John Street Service Road
The City is committed to keeping residents informed of this initiative and will address your comments and questions throughout the design process. Design Completion Notices and Pre-Construction notices will be mailed out to potentially affected residents. These information letters will provide more details such as design details, anticipated disruptions, if any, and the limits of the construction. The construction schedule for the traffic signals will be determined once the detailed design is completed and construction funding is obtained.
