Timing: Work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 29, 2024, and will be completed over the next few months
What is happening?
The city’s Parks and Open Space Development department is undertaking mandatory Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA) updates to over 80 playgrounds over the next few years throughout the City of Markham. There are a total of 16 playgrounds that will be updated within Ward 1 over the next few months with closures of playgrounds taking place for approximately 3-4 weeks during construction at each location. A total of 6 playgrounds will be closed at any given time to ensure that local playgrounds are still accessible and not entirely closed for area residents.
The following parks will be closed beginning on August 29, 2024:
1. Duncan Park
2. Pioneer Park
3. Bayview Reservoir Park
4. Johnsview Park
5. Green Lane Park
6. John Baird Woods Park
The following parks will be closed this fall (dates to be confirmed):
- Romfield Park
- Proctor Park
- Lundy Park
- Glen Crest Park
- Drake Park
- Royal Orchard Park
- Railside Park
- Franklin Carmichael Park
- Rayneswood Park
- Bishop Cross Park
- Pomona Mills Park
