What is happening?
The Yonge North Subway Extension has reached an important milestone: A contract has been awarded to design and build the extension’s tunnels.
This is a significant step toward bringing fast, convenient subway service to more communities in north Toronto, Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill. By extending TTC Line 1 subway service north from Finch Station, the project will transform how people move throughout the region.
Following a competitive procurement process, North End Connectors has been selected to carry out tunnelling work for the project. This includes building the launch and extraction shafts that will be used for the tunnel boring machines, as well as support headwalls for stations and emergency exit buildings. To deliver the subway extension quickly and efficiently, tunnelling will begin first, followed by a separate contract to build the stations, tracks and systems that will support future extended TTC Line 1 service.
