What is happening?
The City of Markham is replacing the expansion joints on John St. over the CN Rail Bridge.
This project is part of the City’s bridges and culverts improvement program to systemically rehabilitate deficient structures in order to improve their safety and reliability.
The construction is scheduled to begin on September 25, 2026 and is expected to be completed by December 2, 2026, depending on the supply of expansion joint material.
This project will be done in staging with traffic lane restrictions during the construction.
There may be delays on John Street during construction due to lane restrictions.
Emergency services and school transportation are advised to plan for potential delays and allow additional travel time.
The Contractor for this project is KB Civil Constructor Inc. and the Consultant is TSI Inc. While there are residents/ businesses and motorists who are using this section of the John St. regularly and may experience some inconvenience, the Contractor, the Consultant and the City staff will work together to complete the project as early as possible. All areas disturbed during the construction will be restored to
their original conditions.
