City of Markham Construction Notice February 5, 2026
Topic: Upcoming Tree Removal Notice – Pomona Mills Park
Schedule:
• Tree removal: Winter 2026
• Trail and road embankment protection (construction) and sediment removal: Summer and Fall 2026
• Final Landscaping: Spring 2027
What is happening?
The City of Markham will be undertaking permanent erosion restoration work in Pomona Mills Park this summer. This important project is necessary to ensure the long‑term stability of the trail embankment and road embankment at John Street, as well as to remove accumulated sediment beneath the John Street bridge so that the culvert can function at full capacity.
Tree removals are required in advance of the construction work. To safely complete the project, 62 trees of various sizes will need to be removed to provide access for equipment. All tree removals will take place during winter 2026, outside the breeding bird season, to protect local wildlife. Please be assured that the City has planned this work carefully to minimize disruption and safeguard the surrounding natural environment.
