Area residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and find out more details regarding a massive development planned for the Shouldice Hospital lands located at 7750 Bayview Ave. in Thornhill.

With the hospital continuing to operate under a leased arrangement for 16 more years, the development proposal outlines a long-term approach with four phases.

The North Block (Phase I) application before the city proposes the development of 1,287 residential units shared between three buildings (five towers) ranging between 18 and 35 storeys and a total of 858 below-ground parking spaces, located within three parking levels, and 12 surface parking spaces.

Redevelopment of the South Block (where Shouldice Hospital is located) and the East Block (bordering Bayview Avenue) are the subject of development applications. The West Block is proposed to remain undeveloped green space.

Three virtual public meetings regarding the Liberty Development application are being held over the next two months.

Liberty is hosting the first two, on Sept. 9 and Sept. 23, in partnership with Ward 1 Coun. Keith Irish.

The third meeting, being held on Oct. 6 and hosted by Irish, will provide an overview of the development.

There will be opportunities at each of the meetings to ask questions and make comments.

Residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance by email to Irish’s executive assistant, Lauren Patton, at lpatton@markham.ca.
