Traffic Closure: John Street to Southbound Yonge Street > Updated January 30
Please note that Metrolinx has now extended this work to at least February 10 and potentially beyond this date. Please refer to the notice they provided below.
I want you to be aware that the Region of York is planning a 7-week (previously 4-weeks) closure of the left turn lane at John Street and Yonge Street beginning on or around October 1. Once the closure is in place, vehicles travelling westbound on John Street will not be able to turn southbound onto Yonge Street each day from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This closure is to allow for the re-location of a large concrete hydro duct bank in support of the Yonge North Subway Extension. There will also be lane restrictions on Yonge Street for this work; I do not expect those to extend much beyond the intersection with John Street.
Signs in support of managing traffic and indicating detours will begin appearing throughout the neighbourhood a few days in advance.
With 18K cars travelling John Street each day, this will be the most significant to date traffic interruption by Metrolinx in support of the subway project.
Revised: January 30, 2025
